Jean Arp (1886 – 1966) Arp was born in Strasbourg, the son of a French mother and a German father. One of the preeminent European artists of the last century, Jean Arp was hailed by art critics as one of the most important sculptors and painters in Western Europe. During his lifetime, Arp collaborated with the Expressionists, the Dadaists, and the Surrealists, creating art ranging from abstract relief sculpture to geometric collage. In addition to sculpting in many mediums, he was highly thought of as a painter, watercolorist, and lithographer. He produced over 50 colorful and energetic lithographic works in his lifetime.
