Henry’s sculpture has been described as huge welded steel drawings. He arranges linear vertical and horizontal elements that appear to defy gravity and float, suggesting an arrested motion of frozen flying or tumbling elements. The geometric forms that define John Henry’s work have their aesthetic and historical base in Constructivism. His works have a definitive trademark style that is recognized internationally.

Henry’s sculptures range in scale from small tabletop pieces to some of the largest contemporary metal sculptures in the world. He has produced over 50 monumental and large-scale sculptures for museums, cities and public institutions throughout the United States. These sculptures are designed, engineered, fabricated and erected by his studio in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

John Henry is known worldwide for his large-scale public works of art, which are prominently exhibited in many American cities and states as well as throughout Europe and Asia. Some of these appear in The State of Illinois Center, Chicago; Achorage International Airport, Alaska; Aspen Art Museum, the City of Sioux City, Iowa; and the Miami Art Museum
