Tom Holland (American, 1936), who lives and works in Berkeley, California, cannot be aligned with any particular artistic group or movement. These abstract works deal with space, color and form. Embracing many mediums and materials, Holland works with epoxy paint, fiberglass, aluminum, paper and marble, transforming and constructing these materials into multi-dimensional objects: free standing structures or wall reliefs. His wall reliefs have forms such as triangles, arcs, loops or rectangles superimposed on the basic background sheet and these shapes project out creating an third dimension. The articulation of color and form cause an interplay between the patterns and colors and the dimensional abstraction makes the wall pieces both painterly and sculptural.
